Sick (fit) notes
You do not require a doctor’s certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less (five working days and two rest days) unless it runs from or into a holiday period. Your employer may, however, require you to present a ‘Fitness To Work’ certificate. Private certificates to cover this first week are available for any illness, including those lasting longer than seven days. For any illness lasting longer than seven days you will usually need to see the doctor for them to issue a ‘fitness’ certificate and for any subsequent renewal of the certificate. Book an appointment with one of the doctors.
